June 14, 2019

The Summer Solstice marks the beginning of summer, a time when the sun is at its highest and seems to stand still as it reaches its peak. The Solstice, as well as the Spring and Fall Equinoxes, are considered in many traditions to be the most spiritually powerful days in the calendar year. The sun leaves the astrological sign of Gemini and enters into Cancer. Side note here: if your birthday falls under this cusp (June 17th to 23rd) like mine, it’s referred to as “The Cusp of Magic”, which is pretty rad if you ask me.

This longest day of the year, June 20th or December 21st depending on the hemisphere you reside in is a time to celebrate the power of the Sun, show gratitude, and for manifesting. All of those things you were thinking about, planning for, and working towards in the previous seasons can be brought into reality. To celebrate this day, spend some time in nature, meditate, or socialize with your friends and loved ones. This is a time to embrace your truth, and let go of what has been holding you back. It’s time to feed your soul. You can honour the bright and abundant energy this spiritual occasion brings with some Solstice loving crystals.

Here are some crystals that represent the energy of the sun, and can be used for meditation, manifesting, and in your rituals:

  • Citrine: one of the strongest manifestation crystals, used to strengthen your willpower, confidence, and to bring abundance.
  • Carnelian: a stone of pleasure and joy, used to bring motivation, creativity, and passion.
  • Tigers Eye: brings vitality, and motivation, used for courage, protection, and luck.

Here are some that work with the moon's energy:

  • Moonstone: representing goddess and feminine energy, used to make you more receptive and to tap into your intuition.
  • Selenite: embodies goddess energy, used to connect us with our higher selves.
  • Labradorite: a stone of magic, allowing you to connect with a higher consciousness, boosting mental power and offering strong protection to keep you grounded.

Crystals that align with Earth's energy:

  • Moss Agate: connected with the Earth’s energy, inspiring new beginnings, reconnecting with nature, and attracting abundance. Use it to help release old patterns or behaviours and promote forgiveness.
  • Black Obsidian: associated with both Earth and Fire, Black Obsidian is a powerful protection stone. Use this stone in your ritual to keep yourself and space protected.
  • Hematite: another one sharing both Earth and Fire, Hematite will keep you grounded and keep you from getting lost in the ether, so to speak. Use its energy to keep you focused and help you manifest the energies and intentions from this ritual.

You can take any combination of the energy represented by these stones, and/or any others that you are feeling exceptionally drawn to at this time, and use them to meditate and bring yourself into this years Solstice focused, clear and ready to make things happen. Here’s a simple ritual that I feel works for me:

  • On the morning of the summer solstice before the sun rises, be sure that you’re awake and in your own sacred space or outside to channel the new beginnings of the rising summer sun.
  • Hold your crystals in your hands, each representing their own unique energy. Keep your feet firmly planted on the ground and feel yourself rooting to it.
  • If you have a grid you can work with you can use that to add some extra oomph to your intentions. We used one of the lovely grids made by The Witch Down the Lane, you can pick one up here. A grid isn't necessary, of course, as you can just lay them out in front of you while you finish your ritual.
  • Focus on your breath, feel its rhythm. Breathe deeply so that you feel it fill your lungs from top to bottom, then exhale everything back out again.
  • Set your intentions with your crystals. This is a time for abundance, growth and new beginnings, but it can be whatever you so desire. Either say them aloud, focus on your manifestations in your mind, or write them down in a journal or on a piece of paper. Visualize each intention and place that energy into each stone. End with a verbal confirmation like “and so it shall be”,  “so it is”, “so mote it be” or “amen”, honestly whatever you feel works best for you.
  • Take a moment to feel the sun's vibrant energy, feel its warmth. Give thanks to Mother Nature and the Earth for all that they provide. Consider what you can do to reduce your footprint on this planet. Every little bit helps.
  • Slowly open your eyes and rise to start your day, place your crystals in your pocket or in a bag/purse to keep them with you all day.

If you’re feeling a strong connection to any other crystal, include it in your own Summer Solstice ritual, as this is merely a guideline to get you started. Let us know in the comments below what you like to do for the Summer Solstice, we'd love to know! 😊
